Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation, heightened focus and concentration, where you become open and receptive to positive suggestions.
You enter this state multiple times throughout the day. You may refer to it as 'being in the zone', when you intensely concentrate and become fully immersed in an activity like reading, watching a movie or driving, only to arrive at your destination without recalling the journey. It is also like daydreaming, where you tune out your surroundings. Additionally, you encounter this deeply relaxed state just after waking up and a few minutes before drifting off to sleep.
During this state, you switch off from all external stimuli, your inner critic and you also release any resistance. As you relax, you gain access to a more resourceful state, that enhances creativity and problem-solving skills. Hypnosis means intentionally entering a state where you take control of your life.
Hypnotherapy is a peaceful and alert state, similar to meditation. You are fully awake, aware, and able to hear everything around you, as well as speak. You are asked to close your eyes to simply allow deep relaxation and focus. Hypnosis is not sleep.
